All persons who desire to renew a Notary Public Commission in the State of Ohio must take a 1 hour review course by an Ohio Secretary of State approved education provider. No examination is necessary to renew. You may renew three (3) months prior to your expiration date. If your current commission has already expired you MUST begin as a new applicant. Do not notarize any documents after your present commission has expired.
When the course application is returned, you will be contacted with the next available review date and time. The course will consist of an onsite live seminar that will provide a review of notarial rules and procedures with time for questions. A certification of completion will be issued after attending the education course that you will then submit to the Ohio Secretary of State in order to receive your new commission. You may take the course up to but no more than twelve (12) months in advance.
Your renewal is for the entire state of Ohio for five (5) years.
